Please review the START Program details on this website and apply by the deadline through the START submission site. By submitting a START proposal, participating universities agree to accept the SRA Research Agreement.
You may revise and re-submit your proposal before the submission deadline. However, no changes will be allowed after the deadline.
Eligibility
No. Unfortunately, the START program is currently designed to fund research projects conducted by researchers affiliated with universities.
Yes, you are eligible, and we encourage you to submit a new proposal this year.
Yes. previous grants from SEC or related Samsung companies do not impact your university’s eligibility to participate in the START Program.
Submission & Funding
Yes. There are no limits on the number of proposals that can be submitted from the same university.
No, funding is provided for one (1) year only. Projects are eligible to be evaluated at the end of the year for continuation - applicants must submit a new proposal highlighting achievements from the completed project and future roadmap for review.
This START program does not guarantee research funding for multi-year proposals. After completing the first year, funding for subsequent years may be considered based on project outcome and internal evaluation.
No. the START program focuses on breakthrough research projects conducted by universities. It does not provide equipment or cash support for individual researchers, student projects, event sponsorships, or teaching activities.
The primary goal of the START program is to cultivate stronger partnerships between Samsung and university faculty and their graduate students. Reimbursable personnel expenses may include salaries for professors or faculty researchers, along with stipends for graduate and undergraduate students participating in the project. While post-doctoral researchers are welcome to contribute to the project, they are expected to obtain independent funding for their salaries through university resources or other external funding avenues.
Funding will be 40% at time of signing, 30% after mid-project deliverable, and 30% after final deliverable. Refer to the START RA for additional details.
Joint proposals will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Documentation
A START RA can be sent, upon request, via email. Contact information is on SRA website. An authorized official at your university must review the SRA RA. By submitting a START proposal, participating universities agree to accept the SRA START Research Agreement.
Please consolidate CVs (1-2 pages) for each individual into Appendices of your proposal.
